Obedience review

Seeing as I'm starting a new class mum decided it was time to review my obedience training to see how we're doing...

My basic manners are pretty good - I never jump at people and I usually listen pretty well when I'm in the house. I listen pretty well outdoors too aas long as I don't get distracted by other doggies or exciting smells - then I get temporarily deaf! It's not my fault...it's just SOOO difficult!

I'm not so fond of doing tricks like rolling over and stuff though which mum was a bit dissapointed at because she was hoping to do some heel work to music training with me - but I just don't really enjoy it so she's never pushed me into it...I prefer proper gun dog work like retrieving dummies and sniffing out trails which have goodies at the end of them. I do one neat party trick - I can count to three! hee hee!

I was a bit overexcited when I was doing that...I get so excited that I try and guess what mum's going to ask me to do next before she asks to try and impress her...oops! I love training but mum thinks I'm a bit out of practice when I'm around other doggies so she thinks class will be good for me. I just can't wait!

Kongs, Kongs, glorious Kongs!

Hey everyone!

I know...I've been a bad pup and not blogged for ages but it's not my fault! My mum has been hogging the computer to do all her university work and so I've been stuck tapping my paws and waiting for AGES! One is not amused....humph!

So...what's been happening with me? I keep growing and growing....heh heh! It's fun! I'm still ocassionally snacking on my own poo but I'm getting better and I'm still kong destroyer extrodinare! Check this out...

I turn eight months old tomorrow! Wow...doesn't time fly! I'm having a great time the older I get though because, even though I am prone to teenage tantrums I've started to realise that the more I listen to mum the more freedom I get. We went out to a big new park today so I was a bit overexicted and pulled to try and chase after other dogs and some big duck type things that mum called Geese...but she said they'd eat me for breakfast so I stayed well away! I had to wear my Gentle Leader for a little while until I calmed down but once I'd got the inital rush out of my system we both enjoyed ourselves. I had a good game of fetch off the lead too...I love playing fetch!

I'm also going to start going to a new obedience school. Mum has wanted me to do the Kennel Clubs Canine Good Citizen awards since she got me but couldn't find a club that did the awards. Just a few days ago we found a club that is just starting offering the KC awards so I'm starting there next week and I'm so excited! I just love training classes and hopefully I'll do my Bronze very soon. They also run agility classes there so when I'm old enough to start agility it means I won't have to go looking for a seperate agility club. Woo hoo! Isn't life great when you're a labrador pup....ABSOLUTELY!

One of those days

I was just sitting here chilling so I thought I'd blog a bit....

Yesterday I was having, what mum calls, 'one of those days'. All morning I caused havoc..hee hee - it's so much fun being a puppy! I started up by waking up and crying to get up at about 6.30am, which is the last thing mum wants on a Saturday morning (so she tells me...). So we got up and I think I must have got out of bed the wrong way because by lunchtime I'd stolen an unlimited number of socks and eaten a piece of one of mums Rachmaninov CDS....ooops! I hope it doesn't make me ill! Then, to top it all...mum left me in the kitchen for just under two hours and I pulled a bowl of papers and odds and ends off the unit (her own fault for not clearing it properly I say!) and shredded my little heart out. I don't really know why I did it - I've been on my own there for three hours on my own and never done anything of the sort...I just put it down to having a bad day!

On the bright side my new Buster cube arrived (Thanks to my buddy Oscar for suggesting my mum should get me one!) - I love it! Mum hasn't got a picture of me with it yet but she said I can have one to put on here and soon as she takes one. In more toy related news I have to go up a kong size to XL red and progress to Black large because a) I'm a big boy now andd b) I keep on tearing up large red ones! Ooops! Mum's not happy about that because they cost so much and says I'm a spoilt brat. LOL! I guess I am really!

I had a bit of a nasty experience in the week too. I was in the park with mum on my long line lead (I've been confined to it for a while because my recall was ggoing down hill!! My bad!) and mum saw a Jack Russell coming with her hooman. She put me in a sit-stay to try and keep me calm as the dog passed but I couldn't help it and I stood up to take a better look as she got close and the little witch sunk her teeth into my nose! OWWWWWW! The hooman told mum she was 'a bit nippy' - a BIT NIPPY! She was hanging off my muzzle and wouldn't let go! NIPPY?! Well, her owner got her off after what seemed an eternity and I figured out it wasn't that bad really so I tried to go back and make friends with the JR but my mum wasn't having any of that and she pulled me away to check that I was alright. I can't say I reccommend the experience but it could have been worse!

Thats enough for now - the beach is calling me!
